Library Visitors Buy Books!

Saturday’s Meet The Author event Wellington (Shropshire) Library was great fun. It’s always interesting chatting to potential readers (and past book buyers), many of whom are dog owners – although, looking at my table display that’s hardly surprising!

But it’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet with other writers – some of whom are old friends, while others are about to become new friends.

What’s lovely about Wellington Library is it is well-used, and it’s wonderful to see so many children piling in on a Saturday. The future of reading is assured, based upon the number of children who ran (yes, ran!) into the library. And, luckily, they bring their mums and dads too – which is better for me, because they tend to be the ones with wallets and purses, and more likely to buy books.

Yes! People buy books in libraries; it’s not an oxymoron. I sold several copies, and here is the wonderful Phyllis Blakemore signing three copies (yes, three copies!) of her book: Gentlemen of the River: The Last Coraclemen of the Severn Gorge. (It’s a great read. I can thoroughly recommend it.)

So thank you to everyone who came – and bought books. It all helps to keep us writers motivated to write the next one. And I’d also like to thank writer Catherine Cooper, who has helped organise these events for the past few years.
