Relax and Write weekend writing courses are organised by Lois Maddox, who enjoys writing herself. When she’s not writing, or organising Relax and Write courses, she’s busy organising the Malaga Workshops.

Seven Steps To Publication Success – Course Details

This course is suitable for all levels. Informal and fun, the weekend helps you to develop your ideas for an appropriate market, as well as show you how to spot the best freelance opportunities. Discover the different ways to structure your article, and learn how to add value to your text. Come with an idea, leave with your article drafted!

Over the course of the weekend, there will be nine separate teaching sessions, with an opportunity to work on and develop your own ideas too.

Session 1
A chance to meet fellow guests. What you’d like to get from the course. Exercise: Identifying your expertise.

Session 2
Step 1 – Get published within a week. Identifying opportunities in magazines for letters and fillers. Exercise: Drafting letter/filler for target market.

Session 3
Step 2 – Ideas and where to find them. Exercise:  identifying and developing potential non-fiction ideas. Exploring angles to get more articles from one idea.

Session 4
Step 3 – Getting to know your readers and learning how to twist your article idea to make it of more interest to them. Practical exercise.

Session 5
Step 4 – Finding the best opportunities in your target publication. Practical exercise.

Session 6
Step 5
– Structuring your article. Techniques for different markets. Exercise: Drafting your article structure.

Session 7
Step 6 – Article extras. Adding value to your work. Exercise: Creating Fact files & Boxouts.

Session 8
Step 7
– Bringing it all together. Getting the technical aspects of submission correct. Exercise: drafting cover letters and query letters.

Session 9
Q&A session
– An opportunity for questions. Guidance on taking your writing/ideas forward.

Fri-Sun Weekend Courses in the UK:

From ONLY £219 en suite single room all meals and course fee included.

Non-participating partners £169 sharing a double room and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and refreshments.

Non-residential members attending course £185 includes all workshops, lunch and dinner and refreshments throughout the weekend.

Arrival time is Friday 3.00 p.m.

Departure is after lunch on Sunday 2.30 p.m.

There is plenty of parking near your rooms.

Taxis can be ordered to collect you from Derby station and to catch your train on the Sunday. Lois can arrange sharing.
