The July 2022 issue of BBC Countryfile has my piece about St Catherine’s Island, which is just off the beach at Tenby, Wales.
It’s currently run by some amazing volunteers, and if you’re in Tenby (and the tide is right – you can only access it at low tide!) then do pop in and explore.
It used to be home to a small chapel (hence it’s St Catherine’s name), then a fort was built on it (that Napoleon chap had them worried in London at one point), but then it became a private home, was garrisoned during two World Wars, and even became a zoo at one point!
