Scrooge’s Alter Ego – best of British – December 2016

Hollywood came to Shrewsbury in 1984, to film an adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. My article in the December 2016 issue of Best of British magazine takes a tour of the exterior film locations, including St Chad’s Church where it’s possible to find a real gravestone for Ebeneezer Scrooge. Don’t believe me? Well, check this out:

The best way to get to know Shrewsbury’s film sets for this production is to take on of the extremely informative (but limited) guided tours that operate over the weekend before Christmas. And if you’re lucky, you may even find your guide is Martin Wood, once Shrewsbury’s Town Crier (and because he’s 7ft 2 inches tall, also he was also the tallest Town Crier in the World), who was also Edward Woodward’s body double in the film.

To find out more about the guided tours taking place this year on 17th and 18th December 2016, and to book your place, contact Shropshire’s Visitor Information Centre on 01743 258888 or email guided.tours@shropshire.gov.uk.

Enjoy!
