Check out my two routes in the June 2023 issue of Country Walking Magazine. The two routes are designed to be perfect to do across a weekend if staying in the area.
The first route is a linear route from Craven Arms. If you’re staying in Ludlow you can either get the train from Ludlow to Craven Arms and walk back, or you can use the bus service 425 (Ludlow to Shrewsbury). There’s a foodie theme here, because you can call in at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and fill up on one of their amazing cooked breakfasts, and then a few miles from Ludlow you pass the Ludlow Farm Shop, with all of its amazing local produce!
I tackled the route in February and passed a lovely swathe of snowdrops:
If you’re lucky, you may even spot the roe deer I passed when I tackled the route:
And if you fill up on all of that, there’s always the additional route around Mortimer Forest to walk it all off!
This route travels through some recently cleared sections of the forest, making the views even better:
